Specifying and Purchasing an API 610 Pump

1.   Introduction

The technical section of an API 610 pump purchase requisition should consist of at least two parts:

2.   Data Sheets

In Appendix B of API 610 there are sample data sheets that should be used when purchasing an API 610 pump.

The purchaser should indicate all the information in the sections marked with a circle. The vendor will complete the information marked with a square and return the data sheets with their bid.

It is important to complete all sections of the pump data sheet. There are many options in the API 610 standard and the data sheet will clarify which options you require and ensure the all vendors are quoting as per your requirements. Important aspects that the data sheets will clarify are:

Many of these items are often not included in purchase requisitions. This will lead to lengthy bid clarification periods.

It is also very important that the data sheets be completed accurately. Every extra item specified adds to the cost. You must accurately assess your requirements.

By including accurately completed data sheets, you will not need to have such a large clarifying specification and you will minimise the time wasted in clarifying vendor's bids.

It is also important that all process flow variations be advised.

3.   Clarifying Specification

API 610 has a number of clauses with a bullet at the beginning. The bullet indicates that a decision, or further information, is required by the Purchaser.

The majority of these clauses can be clarified on the pump data sheet, however some will require written clarification in a separate specification or purchase requisition.
